French Colored Range Chicken What is so special about this breed and the way we raise our chickens? Quality, both in flavor for your table and quality of life for the chickens.
This heritage breed is imported from France where it was selected for the Label Rouge program. It is distinguished from the American industrial breed by its thin skin, elongated breasts, and longer legs. And, because of their slower growth rate, our chickens are reared twice as long as commercial breeds. Read the Animal Welfare Approved article, "Why Good Breeding Matters," for an explanation of why growth rate is a key welfare issue for poultry and this organization's decision to prohibit use of the Cornish Cross breed for their certification.
Hand-raised in small flocks by the Krepky family, our birds enjoy fresh air, natural light, plenty of room to exercise, and are free of antibiotics and hormones. Unlike commercially raised birds, which are transported long distances for slaughter and suffer from stress and dehydration, our birds are humanely processed by Cindy on the farm in a WSDA-certified facility just steps away from the poultry yard.
These conditions result in a firmer meat that contains less water and fat, and more protein, vitamins, and minerals with a distinctively succulent flavor. We raise these birds year-round and they are available fresh or frozen.
Other Poultry & Eggs We raise French Grimaud Pekin and Muscovy ducks, Embden geese, French guinea fowl, and heritage turkeys for meat. Please send $25 deposit to reserve your turkey or goose for the holidays so you don't miss out!
We also raise chickens, ducks, and geese year round for eggs. However, the goose eggs are seasonal and only available January to June. Poultry Processing ClassesLearn how to process poultry in our WSDA-certified facility. Class covers permitting requirements, facilities for home or professional, poultry anatomy, and hands-on processing experience. Cost includes your processed chicken from our flock or yours. Call or email to schedule a class for individual or group instruction. $45/person ($35/person if you want to process your own birds).
Poultry and Rabbit Processing Co-Pack
In 2011, we received a USDA exemption allowing us to process poultry and rabbits for other producers. With the loss of processing facilities for small-flock producers, most farmers process their poultry onsite with a temporary permit. However, they can only sell their birds fresh off the farm. We are excited to offer this service to Washington producers so they can access other markets for their products, such as restaurants, farmers markets, and butcher shops. Small family flocks of a few birds are also welcome. Please email Cindy for more information and reserve a date for your processing needs.
